Anthony D. Marshall, who was convicted last year of looting the estate of his mother, socialite Brooke Astor, owes $1.2 million to his criminal lawyers at Davis Wright Tremaine. According to court papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Oct. 29, the firm entered a confession of judgment for more than $237,000 against Mr. Marshall. That comes on top of a nearly $979,000 confessed judgment to Davis Wright filed in December. John R. Cuti, Mr. Marshall’s lawyer at Davis Wright, declined to comment.

In an affidavit, Mr. Marshall said he had “been unable to make current payment” to Davis Wright. The new judgment covers the firm’s work from December through August, the affidavit said, during which the firm represented him in sentencing and in ongoing litigation over his mother’s estate in Westchester Surrogate’s Court. Mr. Cuti and Kenneth E. Warner of Warner Partners remained on as Mr. Marshall’s lawyers after his lead lawyer, Frederick P. Hafetz of Hafetz Necheles & Rocco withdrew in December (NYLJ, Dec. 1, 2009).
