ALBANY – Going into the final weeks of the campaign for attorney general, Republican Daniel M. Donovan Jr. had less than half of the funds on hand as his Democratic rival, Eric T. Schneiderman. But Mr. Donovan’s campaign said he will soon close the gap.

Donovan spokeswoman Virginia Lam said the Staten Island district attorney expects to reap $2 million in contributions from an Oct. 25 fund-raiser in Manhattan hosted by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, former Mayor Edward Koch, former Governor George E. Pataki and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
