A former convict who was sent back to jail repeatedly for violating his parole has been set free after a state judge granted him a rarely issued writ of habeas corpus.
Ruling that a recently amended state law terminating parolee sentences after three years should apply retroactively, Supreme Court Justice Emily Pines of Suffolk County (See Profile) last week ordered Tiernan Murphy, 49, released from the Suffolk County Jail.
