Revisions to procedures to be followed by the Commission on Judicial Nomination when selecting candidates for openings on the Court of Appeals have been circulated for final comment. The revisions are published in the Department of State’s New York State Register and reflect feedback received following the commission’s July proposals to alter procedures to broaden candidate solicitation and screening methods to attract a wider pool of nominees (NYLJ, July 27).

The public will have until Jan. 22 to comment on the revised proposals, which include provisions for an orientation session for new members of the commission and better notification of civic and public interest groups when openings are impending on the Court. If no substantive changes to the revised procedures are made based on suggestions submitted during the 30-day comment period, the commission will be free to adopt the new rules. Comments on the revised rules can be sent to the commission’s counsel, Stephen P. Younger of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler at [email protected].
