Joseph H. Driscoll Jr., of Long Beach, a retired Nassau County Supreme Court justice, died Tuesday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 82.

Justice Driscoll went to law school later in life, after a career in sales. In 1977, he graduated from St. John’s University School of Law, where he and his daughter, Kathryn D. Hopkins, who is now the chief clerk of the Nassau County Supreme Court, attended together for one year.
