ALBANY – The one-time communications director to ex-governor Eliot Spitzer has been fined $10,000 by the state Commission on Public Integrity for his role in efforts within the administration to discredit a Republican rival, former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.

The civil penalty levied against Darren Dopp is the maximum provided for under §73 of the state Public Officers Law, which prohibits use of government resources for non-governmental purposes.
