ALBANY – Court-appointed attorneys for the child will receive standardized training to increase their sensitivity to domestic violence, and judges will be required to write explicitly about the implications of a family’s history of violence when explaining custody and visitation decisions under a bill that has been signed into law by Governor David A. Paterson.

Sponsors said the measure will help the courts better reflect the often central role domestic violence plays in situations where marriages are dissolving or where a parent is facing the loss or limitation of custody or visitation rights with their biological children.
