A Manhattan judge has cleared a potential roadblock to a high-tech police operations center to be built next to One Police Plaza, ruling that the project is not subject to either state or city environmental review laws.

In Chatham Towers v. NYPD, 11875/08, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael D. Stallman (See Profile) ruled that the reconstruction of the building, which formerly housed a fire department 911 call unit, “does not differ sufficiently from its prior use” and will be used for similar functions, although with more advanced equipment.
