Thomas E. Dewey, who served three terms as New York governor from 1943 to 1955, is best remembered by most as the name at the beginning of one of the most famous erroneous headlines in the history of American journalism.
“Dewey Defeats Truman” an early edition of the Nov. 3, 1948, issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune blared on its front page.
