On Monday a jury of 12 Manhattan citizens reached a verdict on the Daniel Penny criminal case: not guilty on all charges. Anyone with a brain who lives in New York City could have predicted this verdict.

That is not the fascinating part of this case —the fascinating part is the "why." Why did it take 12 ordinary Manhattan citizens five days of deliberations? It took over 24 hours cumulatively speaking about the case in closed doors to finally reach this verdict? This is simply because of the overreach by the New York County District Attorneys office, which in turn caused seemingly rational jurors to second guess themselves and invent a debate that never needed to exist.
