In 2023, defendant Simon Gogolack was indicted on drugs and firearms charges in the overdose death of an exotic dancer who was a government witness in a case against a strip club owner. Superseding indictments added charges including kidnapping and witness tampering charges as well as conspiracy and substantive charges of witness tampering and obstruction, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Ultimately, U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah McCarthy concluded that the government acted in bad faith when it failed to comply with a discovery deadline, and ordered sanctions, including disqualification of three prosecutors assigned to the case.
