The founder of the startup behind the Los Angeles Unified School District’s failed $6 million artificial intelligence chatbot was arrested on Tuesday, with federal prosecutors claiming she obtained millions in funding based on lies on the firm’s revenue and customer base.

Joanna Smith-Griffin’s arrest comes shortly after she was charged in the Manhattan federal court with securities fraud, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection to an alleged investment scam involving her education technology company, AllHere Education Inc., which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in June.
