My first “job” out of law school (1976!) was doing “overflow” work for older attorneys in a suite of offices in mid-town Manhattan. In a situation like that, the older attorneys give you their worst cases, the ones they never should have taken, to move forward. It was and is a great way to learn, but not to make money.

I was blessed in that most of the attorneys that gave me work reviewed and critiqued the work I was doing. They, of course, wanted the work done correctly. They also were a group that remembered how it was when they were young and inexperienced. They felt a responsibility to train the next generation.
