Former U.S. Rep. George Santos, R-New York, is engaging in plea negotiations with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, prosecutors told a federal judge Tuesday during Santos’ first status conference after his expulsion from Congress at the beginning of the month.

Santos, 35, pleaded not guilty in October to a superseding indictment charging him with conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, making materially false statements to the Federal Election Commission and falsifying records submitted to obstruct the FEC.
