What were some of your most satisfying successes of the past year, and why? We were 100% confident that the SDNY decision overturning Purdue’s confirmation order was clear legal error. As the primary architect of the almost universally supported Chapter 11 plan and having done both appellate oral arguments, 83 pages of complete vindication was deeply gratifying. The landmark decision is correct across the board on serious and weighty issues. That said, five years of legal victories and consensus-building is of rather little moment until the billions of dollars and life-saving medicines are actually flowing to those in desperate need—for whom we have been working since 2018.

The Spring 2023 mini-financial crisis that included the failures of SVB, Signature Bank, Credit Suisse and First Republic was another signature moment for me and for Davis Polk. We are always at the epicenter of financial crises and this was no exception—we did all four of those deals, and counseled dozens of clients, interfacing with regulators around the clock, through roiled and turbulent waters.
