Retired New York City appeals court Judge Rolando Acosta recently told an audience that, although he’s a lifelong Democrat with progressive political leanings, he’s not on board with what he said were recent threats to judicial independence by members of his political party in the New York Senate.

The recently retired Appellate Division, First Department presiding justice who’s now a partner in Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, made the remarks as he accepted the Cyrus R. Vance Tribute Award given by the Fund for Modern Courts on Thursday at the Yale Club of New York City.
