We’re in a period of recovery (sort of) from the contentious struggle over Gov. Kathy Hochul’s nomination of Justice Hector LaSalle for chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals earlier this year.

It certainly wasn’t a mere dustup in the Senate’s hearing on the nomination. The result was, pretty much, foreordained. In the view of many (this writer included), the hearing was little more than a formality. One might even say a joke.
