Last Friday night, Larry Hutcher, a lifelong Knicks fan and a Manhattan lawyer since 1975, sat near the court and watched his Knicks pull off a thrilling win when forward Julius Randle hit a stunning 3-point shot with 0.7 seconds left in the game.

Hutcher, who used to represent the National Basketball Players Association, had been a Knicks season ticketholder, until recently, for 47 years. But on Friday he did not sit inside Madison Square Garden for his team’s victory over the Miami Heat. Instead, he went to see an “away” game at Miami-Dade Arena next to the Biscayne Bay. And it was the first game he saw in person all season.
