Moving to further guard a women’s right to choose in New York State, as well as enshrine in the state constitution protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, national origin and other factors, the state legislature has passed an Equal Rights Amendment for a second time.

The latest passage will allow the amendment to be placed before voters in a 2024 referendum. For the constitution to be amended, the resolution had to have been passed by two successive state legislatures, and it must be approved by voters.
