In closing arguments Thursday in the criminal tax fraud trial of the Trump Organization, defense attorneys Susan Necheles and Michael van der Veen urged jurors to consider whether the company’s troubled ex-chief financial officer intended to benefit the company in his tax fraud scheme.

Allen Weisselberg, who is currently on a paid leave of absence from the Trump Organization, pleaded guilty to 15 counts in August and testified under a plea agreement with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office that provides for him to serve five months or less of a sentence that could have otherwise been five to 15 years.
