On Friday, Columbia Law School presented its prestigious Medal for Excellence to the first woman to lead a major New York City cultural institution and to a tech executive who has committed a portion of his largess to the school’s human rights clinic.

The school presented its award to Ellen Futter, a 1974 graduate of Columbia Law who has served as president of the American Museum of Natural History for three decades; and Microsoft president and vice chair Brad Smith, who obtained his J.D. from Columbia Law in 1984.
