Acting Supreme Court Justice James Burke of Manhattan is leaving the bench after an advisory committee to New York City Mayor Eric Adams voted against a recommendation to reappoint the judge, according to numerous sources with knowledge of the matter.

The sources said that Burke, who has served on the city’s Criminal Court for more than two decades and is appointed to serve as an acting justice on the state Supreme Court, failed to win a vote for reappointment by the Mayor’s Advisory Committee to the Judiciary for reasons related to his judicial temperament.
