Former President Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of Justice have each proposed candidates for appointment as special master to review the documents seized at Mar-a-Lago in August—but only one appears to have support from both parties in the case, according to a filing Monday.

U.S. District Senior Judge Raymond Dearie of the Eastern District of New York was one of two candidates proposed by Trump in a joint filing Friday. On Monday, U.S. Attorney Juan Antonio Gonzalez of the Southern District of Florida informed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon that the government would support the appointment of Dearie or either of its two originally proposed candidates, who are both retired federal judges.
