New York Republican lawmakers on Friday urged Gov. Kathy Hochul to commence a special session to address a surge in violence and repeal bail reform.

In the aftermath of the shooting death of a police officer and attack of a gubernatorial candidate in separate violent acts in Monroe County Thursday, Senate Republican leader Robert Ortt, R-Erie, and Assembly GOP leader Will Barclay, R-Oswego, issued a joint statement asking Hochul to act as swiftly as she did following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent overturn of New York’s conceal carry law.
