New York business groups decried a legislative bill that is headed to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk and aims to expand the state’s wrongful death act to recover compensation for grief and emotional anguish.

A coalition of nearly three dozen business associations throughout the state, spanning chambers of commerce, truckers, farmers and food alliances, signed a joint letter this week asking Hochul to reject the measure, warning it would drive up liability insurance premiums for which consumers will ultimately pay.
