New York’s top legal official said she helped millions of Americans, including 176,000 New Yorkers, claim a nationwide $141 million agreement from a tax-filing tech company that bamboozled customers into paying for services that should have been free.

In a statement Wednesday, Attorney General Letitia James said she led a multistate investigation with Tennessee, with support from attorneys general of Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington into TurboTax’s free edition.
