New York’s largest law firms elevated a bumper crop of new partners in the last year, after promotions were muted in a prior 12-month period that overlapped with the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legal market observers say that a year of deep uncertainty during the early part of the pandemic was followed by a year in which surging demand placed a premium on attracting and retaining talent. Against that backdrop, the 25 biggest firms operating in New York elevated 30.1% more lawyers to partner firmwide from early April 2021 to the present than they did in the 12 months ending on April 1, 2021.
