A former litigator who heads up a good-government advocacy group is calling on the state legislature to quickly advance a proposal that would allow former Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin additional means to remove himself from the June primary ballot.

Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause New York, on Thursday backed a planned legislative effort by Assembly member Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, proposing to change state election law that would yield three additional ways for a candidate to be taken off the ballot, as late as May 1.
