The New York lawmaker who chairs the state Assembly’s judiciary committee has filed a trio of bills aimed at countering other states’ efforts to suppress abortions, including a proposed law that would bar New York courts from issuing subpoenas tied to out-of-state abortion proceedings.

“We are not going to stand idly by while Florida or Texas or any of these other states decide to issue an extradition warrant for a New York physician who has been in any way involved with abortion services, or for that matter, with New York citizens who are helping women in those states receive abortions even by simply contributing to funds that help pay for their transportation out of places like Texas,” Assemblyman Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove, said in an interview Wednesday.
