Attorneys used their closing arguments in Sarah Palin’s defamation case against The New York Times to draw opposite conclusions from evidence of the same behavior of the newspaper’s former opinion editor, James Bennet.

Palin’s attorney, Kenneth G. Turkel of Turkel Cuva Barrios, told a jury emails Bennet exchanged throughout the writing of a June 2017 editorial showed he was determined to force a connection between speech and violence, and in the process disregarded he was wrongly tying a publication by Palin’s political action committee to a deadly 2011 shooting.
