A Manhattan federal jury on Friday convicted Michael Avenatti, the formerly high-flying celebrity attorney and one-time presidential hopeful, of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft for stealing $300,000 from his former client, adult film star Stormy Daniels, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has confirmed.

The verdict followed an eight-day trial in the Southern District of New York, where Avenatti was accused of secretly routing two installments of a $800,000 book deal to a separate account under his own control.
