Two veteran upstate attorneys, one a volunteer with the Pace Women’s Justice Center, the other a volunteer with both an elder law center and a surrogate decision-making committee assisting disabled people with medical requests, have been honored with the Jonathan Lippman Pro Bono Award handed out by the New York State Bar Association.

Emilia Rodriguez of Scarsdale and Daniel D. Shonn Jr. of Akron, New York, were recognized with the awards during a virtual event that was part of the NYSBA’s annual two-week meeting. The awards, named after Lippman, the former chief judge of the state court system and today of counsel at Latham & Watkins, were given out by the state bar’s 50+ Lawyers Section. The section focuses on attorneys statewide who are over the age of 50.
