Gibson Dunn & Crutcher’s Randy Mastro, who represented New York Knicks owner James Dolan in retired player Charles Oakley’s lawsuit against him, is pushing for sanctions against Wigdor for pursuing “baseless” allegations in a case that he says amounted to a “smear campaign” against his client.
U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan of the Southern District of New York dismissed Oakley’s lawsuit last month, citing video evidence of the former power forward’s removal from the stands at a Feb. 8, 2017, game at Madison Square Garden that “no reasonable jury” would believe as supporting Oakley’s version of events.
