Iberdrola, a Spanish renewable energy company, Avangrid Networks and other defendants were hit with a civil RICO and trade secrets lawsuit Monday in New York Southern District Court. The case, which arises from previous criminal proceedings involving corporate espionage and procurement fraud, accuses the defendants of engaging in a ‘pay-to-play’ scheme in which lucrative energy contracts are steered toward competitors.

Avangrid serves 3.25 million customers in New York and New England, court documents state.
