U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Drain of the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York on Thursday denied a motion from opponents of the $4.3 billion Purdue Pharma bankruptcy settlement to route their appeal directly to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

The case is set to proceed before U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon of the Southern District of New York, who has set an expedited schedule with the first brief due Oct. 22 and oral arguments on Nov. 30.
