Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams announced Wednesday that Margaret Garnett, commissioner of the New York City Department of Investigation, will serve as the top deputy in the Southern District of New York, as he builds out the office’s new leadership.

Williams, who was confirmed to his post on Oct. 5, also named Daniel Gitner, a longtime criminal defense lawyer and partner with the Manhattan firm Lankler Siffert & Wohl, to head the office’s criminal division.
