Advocates and state lawmakers on Monday rallied for legislation that would go after “predatory” court fees, a practice they argue unfairly hurts low-income New Yorkers.
The bill would eliminate state vehicle and traffic statutes that outline court fees for criminal convictions and parking violations. Supporters say the legislation would also stop the garnishing of commissary funds to pay for fees and fines.
