In response to a motion raised by advocates for the homeless represented by Jenner & Block and the Legal Aid Society, U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni of the Southern District of New York on Thursday ordered New York City to temporarily stop moving homeless people out of local hotels where they have been housed as a COVID-19 infection-control measure.

“I find that the plaintiffs have shown that defendants’ failures are systemic in nature,” Caproni said as she issued a temporary restraining order pausing the moves until Aug. 19.
