A Manhattan federal judge has found the Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. liable for allegedly raping a woman in a New York City hotel room in 2013, after the actor had “completely failed to engage” with a civil lawsuit for nearly a year.

U.S. District Judge Paul A. Crotty of the Southern District of New York entered default judgment against the actor in the case, which was filed by an unnamed plaintiff last August. Crotty withheld decision on damages, and ordered Gooding to finally enter an appearance by Sept. 7.
