Senate Republicans cast doubt on President Joe Biden’s pick for the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday, scrutinizing her prior experience as a voting rights advocate and questioning her judicial philosophies.

The nominee, Myrna Pérez, is the director of the Brennan Center’s Voting Rights and Elections Program housed at New York University, where she leads the center’s research, advocacy and litigation work. If confirmed, she would be the second-ever Hispanic woman to sit on the Second Circuit.
