When U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta opened a hearing on a congressional subpoena for Donald Trump’s financial records Thursday, he pointed out it had been two years since lawyers for the case were in his court.

“It’s been a long winding road to get back here,” he said, referring to the case being argued before multiple other courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, since his initial ruling for the subpoena in 2019.
