Socrates was criminally charged, convicted by a jury, and sentenced to death in 399 B.C. He was accused and found guilty of two crimes: corrupting the youth of Athens by criticizing its democracy and offending the Olympian gods.

While we have not a single word written by Socrates, we are blessed with the writings of Plato, the dialogues, which tell us about Socrates’ intellectual pursuits and life, including his trial and death.
