During a New York State Bar Association event on Friday, Jeh Johnson, a former secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, urged judges to check intolerance and hostility that occurs in their courtrooms.
Johnson’s comments come months after he began an independent review of racial bias in the New York state court system. A report tied to the review, which was released this fall, described a court system riddled with racism and racial bias.
