The swift and bipartisan impeachment of Trump in the House took place with only a week left in his term, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he doesn’t believe Trump would get a fair trial before Inauguration Day. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has yet to formally transmit the single article of impeachment to the Senate, which would launch the proceedings.
