The Legal Aid Society and Milbank on Tuesday sued New York City for failing to provide students in homeless shelters access to Wi-Fi so they can attend school remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 38-page lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, alleged that the city’s failure to provide children with reliable internet access eight months into the deepening public health crisis violated state and federal laws mandating education for homeless students and breached the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
