A Manhattan federal judge on Tuesday set a tentative April 26 trial date in the long-delayed criminal case of Michael Avenatti, the embattled attorney and one-time presidential candidate accused of stealing money from his former client, adult-film star Stormy Daniels.

U.S. District Judge Jesse M. Furman of the Southern District of New York agreed with both federal prosecutors and Avenatti’s court-appointed counsel, who said that a trial in the first quarter of 2021 would not be feasible because of complications from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a pending criminal trial in California, where Avenatti is charged in a scheme to embezzle millions of dollars from former clients.
