Addressing voters who may be notified after Election Day of deficiencies in submitted absentee ballots, state Attorney General Letitia James issued an alert to constituents Tuesday informing them of the right to correct deficiencies under the state’s new “notice and cure” law.

Under legislative amendments to state election law, as modified in August by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.58, the state’s boards of election are encouraged to count received ballots “as soon as possible,” and are required to notify absentee voters of ballots rejected due to certain types of filing errors.
