A state appeals court has immediately suspended a Manhattan real estate attorney from practicing law after he ignored a grievance committee’s litany of requests asking him to produce certain records linked to escrow account checks that bounced. Ethics authorities also say that the lawyer later remedied escrow account shortfalls using his wife’s personal funds.

Craig F. Meltzer—who also practices elder law, including wills, trusts and estates work, according to his solo-practitioner firm website—has been immediately suspended by the Appellate Division, First Department for engaging in conduct that immediately threatened the public interest, according to the First Department’s opinion in the matter. His suspension continues pending further investigation of his actions and pending further order of the court, which may take more disciplinary action against him.
