Attorneys representing a group of Orthodox Jewish synagogues and rabbis Thursday urged a Brooklyn federal judge to act quickly to block Gov. Andrew Cuomo from enforcing an executive order limiting attendance at houses of worship in areas battling coronavirus clusters.

U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto of the Eastern District of New York agreed to hold a hearing at 1:30 p.m. Friday to consider the group’s request for a temporary restraining order, which Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders partner Avi Schick argued will be essential to allow worshippers at synagogues in the zones to observe religious holidays scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
