Attorneys chipped away at each other’s arguments during a federal appeals court proceeding Friday, making their points in a case over whether a couple should be able to host a wedding celebration that exceeds a 50-person gathering limit.

The couple planned to throw a wedding celebration in western New York on Aug. 22 with about 175 people, but  the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit granted the state’s motion for an emergency stay and the couple postponed the event.
